At 1040 AM Pacific a small to moderate earthquake rating 4.3 on the Richter scale shook the San Francisco Bay Area, with the epicenterabout 16 miles ESE of San Jose. This is the largest shaker in many months. A number of graphic representations can be found at the link provided. Here in Mountain View on the SW aspect of the Bay, it was only a few seconds in duration, and shook the bookshelves a bit. In San Francisco, my daughter reports a picture fell and broke. I have heard no reports of damage or injury. This event was on the Central Calaveras fault. For some reason, there are very few events on the peninsula, though the San Andreas Fault runs through it... I hope the stresses are not building.
