The film follows a Washington D.C. spin doctor (De Niro) who, mere days before a presidential election, distracts the electorate from a sex scandal by hiring a Hollywood film producer (Hoffman) to construct a fake war with Albania.
CNN reports that Trump has ordered “his generals” to wage “war” on al-Qaeda in Yemen. Multiple airstrikes already have been executed over the past two days. No reports on casualties. The CNN report included several statements of ? origin in support of the need for this escalation:
1) a claim by the misadministration that important intel had been gathered in the botched SEAL read in January.
2) a list of supposed and actual terrorist activities possibly directed at the US by al-Qaeda in Yemen
3) a claim that al Q is a much more serious threat to the US than ISIS.
Of course, CNN shares in Trump’s alternate universe, so god only knows if this military move makes sense, or is just political theater with a high risk attached. Clearly the Trumpys are in deep Russian doo doo. I see this as a desperation move to galvanize the country behind him. Maybe it will result in his wet dream of a terrorist attack on the U.S.
It’s not as bad as nuking N. Korea, so there’s that.
